What is ConTact C.A.R.E?

ConTact C.A.R.E stands for Commonsense Approach to Real Ease — and the name says a lot about what this discipline is. The “ConTact” speaks to something equally essential: this is hands-on work. Physical, mechanical contact is at the heart of it. It cannot be done remotely. A practitioner needs to be present with you, reading what the body is doing in real time, to locate and support the release of stored pressure.

ConTact C.A.R.E Flinchlock Release is a method for locating and releasing pressure that gets stored in bone following sudden, unexpected impact. These stored impact sites are called Flinchlocks — and the Flinchlock Release method is exactly what it sounds like: a precise, gentle technique used by the practitioner to release them. When that pressure releases, the body is able to reorganise and rebalance itself — often in ways that feel surprisingly simple.

A martial art discipline — Dale Speedy

ConTact C.A.R.E is grounded in Dale W. Speedy’s (6th dan Black Belt, Kiaido-Ryu) study of stillness, movement, and self-defence. This practice has been developed through the lineage of Kiaido-Ryu Karate, Wei Kuen Do, Qi Gong, Tai Chi Chuan, and principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine. These traditions foster holistic and acute awareness towards the self and the environment. Through discipline, practitioners refine their sensitivity and observation to locate irregularities and utilise their skills to gently perform the release.

A philosophical discipline — Kym Summers

The ConTact C.A.R.E philosophy is informed by the physical laws of nature and by how we perceive and experience them. Kym Summers — who came to this work through years of study in Ortho-Bionomy and a deep respect for attentive, client-led practice — contributed the philosophical foundations that give the discipline its distinctive character.

Kym originated the principle of accepting what is and working with whatever presentation might come up in a session, as long as it is comfortable. Rather than imposing technique, the practitioner meets the body exactly where it is. This starting point, in Kym’s experience, consistently produces the most appropriate change for the session — and it is the thread that runs through every ConTact C.A.R.E session worldwide.
