Frequently Asked Questions
-
No. ConTact C.A.R.E Flinchlock Release is a martial arts discipline — more like Tai Chi than physiotherapy. It doesn’t diagnose, treat, or cure anything. Please keep seeing your doctor or any other practitioners you’re working with, and check in with a healthcare professional if you have health concerns.
-
Nothing at all. There’s no prep, no reading, no particular way to arrive. The work is guided entirely by what your body presents on the day.
-
No. Sessions are gentle and completely guided by your comfort. You won’t be asked to push through anything — and if something doesn’t feel right, please just say so.
-
Not at all. Many people come to us after years — sometimes decades — of carrying holding patterns in their body. This discipline works with what’s present right now. We won’t make promises about outcomes, because everyone’s experience is different. But we can offer attentive, unhurried practice, a genuine commitment to listening, and the spacious, patient approach that this work is built on.
-
Yes. Kids often respond really naturally to this work — and because the Flinchlock response starts in childhood, it can be a lovely thing to address early. Sessions are adapted to the child’s pace, done with their comfort and consent throughout. You’re welcome to stay, and for younger children we’d encourage it.
-
Yes — Stephanie works with companion animals and horses. This discipline was actually developed through animal observation before it was ever offered to people, so it’s very much part of the lineage. Get in touch to talk through your animal’s situation.
-
Absolutely. This doesn’t replace any other care you’re receiving. We just suggest leaving at least 72 hours between a ConTact C.A.R.E session and other hands-on bodywork like massage, osteopathy, physio, or chiropractic.
-
It really varies. Some people notice something meaningful after one session; others find they need 2-5 sessions to resolve their original concern. And some clients enjoy coming back over time for maintenance. There’s no set programme — we figure it out together as we go.
-
Yes, absolutely. ConTact C.A.R.E Flinchlock Release is a physical, mechanical discipline — it is not energy work, and we do not work with spiritual guides, intention-based healing, or any spiritual framework of any kind. The work is grounded entirely in biomechanics and the body’s own structural responses.
During your first session, there’s always an introduction and consent conversation before anything begins. This is your opportunity to share any preferences, boundaries, or requests — around touch, positioning, language, or anything else that matters to you. We welcome that conversation and will always work within whatever feels right for you.

The founders are upfront about this: “our evidence is anecdotal only. There has not been a scientific study conducted into how ConTact C.A.R.E gets its results.” We think it’s important to say that clearly.
What we do have is a long history of consistent observation, starting with animals. The work was developed on horses and farm animals first — animals that can’t be persuaded or influenced by expectation. The results were consistent across species. That consistency gave the founders the confidence to bring it to people. Like Tai Chi, it’s really something you need to experience to understand.
